A Life Poured Out, Still Growing

This triptych reflects the changing seasons of my life—military service, motherhood, faith, healing, and becoming an artist. The left panel represents twenty years of Army service and the discipline, sacrifice, resilience, and perspective formed during that season. The right reflects where I am now: home as a place of peace, creativity, restoration, and building a legacy with my daughters.

The center panel is the heart of the work, representing the foundation to which I continually return. The bread, goblet, and linen reference communion and my relationship with Christ. The open book symbolizes continued learning, while the child’s drawing honors motherhood, the wonder of the inner child, and the early beginnings of my love for art.

Light creates an arching movement across the three panels. On the left, the setting sun marks the close of my military career and that season of service. Its glow moves toward the center, nourishing the abundant plant life rising from the table. On the right, the moon ascends into the night sky—a reminder that even in darkness, light continues to shine upon and guide my life.

A broken vase repaired with gold through kintsugi represents the restoration that can follow loss, trauma, and major transition—not erasing what has been broken, but allowing healing to make it stronger and more beautiful. The foliage flowing throughout the triptych reflects continued growth and the truth that growth can take different forms in different seasons.

Soft, reflective, and dreamlike, the work moves beyond a simple progression of past, present, and future. Instead, it asks what every season of life is growing from. For me, everything returns to the center table: faith, sacrifice, restoration, and the values that remain steady through every changing season.

Our Personal Reach for Eternal Life

Inspired by the Tree of Life and created for my eldest daughter, this painting explores the deeply personal ways we reach for God’s love. Beneath the tree, figures move through different seasons of life—leading families, raising children, caring for spouses, carrying grief, wrestling with doubt, and beginning to look toward hope.

On the left, angels lift and strengthen the arms of a father as he leads his family forward, echoing the story of Moses and reminding us that spiritual leadership also requires divine support. On the right, a mother holds her child while a celestial figure—perhaps a mother, grandmother, or loved one who has passed beyond the veil—supports her. Together, they represent the generational legacy of faith and the unseen strength carried from one generation to the next.

Other angels strengthen a devoted caregiver, comfort grieving souls, gently turn faces toward the light, and bring fruit to those who cannot yet rise. They represent God’s mercy and His intimate awareness of each person, particularly those who feel distant, burdened, or unworthy.

Above, light pours from a celestial city as those who have partaken of the fruit ascend, radiant with divine love. The unripened fruit waiting in the branches represents those whose journey continues. The tree waits, the fruit waits, and God waits—because no one is forgotten, and every soul has a place in His plan.

Love Gathers Here

This painting explores the sacred beauty found in ordinary moments of togetherness. The round table and enveloping couch create a sense of intimacy, while the objects gathered at the center reflect the values that anchor my home: faith, hospitality, connection, and creativity.

The green Bible represents Christ as the foundation of my learning, compassion, and ability to love others well. The floral teapot—found while antiquing with my daughters—holds memories of time shared together while symbolizing hospitality, service, and generosity. Beside it, the glass teacup reflects the meals, conversations, and fellowship shared with women in my church and community.

The brass bell carries an especially personal meaning. In our home, my daughters and I use a bell like this as a wordless request for attention, comfort, or a hug. It represents the belief that anyone should be able to make a bid for love and be met with affection and presence.

A child’s drawing and scattered colored pencils preserve the imagination and joyful creativity of childhood. Soft light settles across the scene like a visible memory, inviting the viewer to recognize the warmth, grace, and belonging found wherever love quietly gathers in everyday life.
